You howled along the coast like an angry host

accosting a frightened town with a category four

more  critical than ever before catastrophic floods rose

appose street rows and continued to rise

devastating priceless lives

transposing rivers on dry ground

drenching opposed citizens fleeing treasured abodes

lives shattered and unrecoverable but memorized

as they fled for higher ground

 Your angry winds lashed Houston to a whipping post

wielding a woeful lesson in environmental education

taking lives presaging  global warming unheeded

til the next time your winds call

with cataclysmic pleading

for a smaller carbon footprint

    1. At this point preventing global warming is too late: it’s already here. We’ve wasted far too much time with corporate propaganda and selfishness to avoid climate change. Thankfully nature’s inherently adaptable. If we make massive changes to our consumption – and thinking – patterns then we might be able to adapt along with it. We currently have an opportunity redefine what it means to be human, and I hope we take it.

      1. Josh, I agree wholeheartedly. People have gotten so use to luxury items, cars, plastic consumption, overuse of electricity, it’s a tough proposition to ask a nation to reduce their use. I still believe one step, no matter how small, helps. I’ve given up plastics and recycle everything. 🙂

      2. Oh yes, every small step helps: especially if it’s visible. Behavior change can be contagious. It might be too late to fully prevent climate change, but we can lessen the duration and intensity of it.

        It’s great to hear that you’ve given up plastics! Do you mean all plastics? I’d love to hear more about what sorts of substitutes you’re using.

      3. Hi Josh, sorry for the late response. Been extremely busy. I use to buy bottled water until I realized how much plastic I was using. I recycled but decided the best thing to do was buy a water filtration system which I now use. I also buy mostly Seventh Generation products, biodegradable products without the harsh chemicals. And the list goes on . . . 🙂 It’s a conscious effort every day and I’m pretty sure my friends are tired of hearing my sermon. 🙂
